The Foundations of Karl Rahner
A Paraphrase of the Foundations of Christian Faith with Introduction and Indices
Karl Rahner’s brother, Hugo, reportedly said that he would one day translate the difficult prose of his famous brother into ordinary language. Mark F. Fischer has risen to that challenge with a paraphrase of Karl Rahner’s Foundations of Christian Faith.
Foundations has “a somewhat more compehensive and systematic character,” Rahner himself wrote, than one is accustomed to find in his other works. Fischer’s paraphrase makes the Rahnerian system clear. His Introduction gives readers important information on what Rahner says and why he says it.
The Foundations of Karl Rahner also remedies the one defect of Rahner’s original work, namely, the absence of an index. Fischer provides indices of topics, Biblical citations, and proper names used in Rahner’s Foundations.
